New management has made major improvements to Leiberheim.
Leiberheim has a military past and tradition, since it was founded soon after the end of World War I as a club house and meeting place for veterans. Thus the reference in the name to the Royal Bavarian Leibregiment. The uniform and Iron Cross of one of its founders that was formerly on display in a case inside the restaurant is now in a military museum in Chiemgau. The husband and wife team of Thomas and Katrin König took over the establishment a few years ago and have made major improvements. (They also now own and operate Aumeister.) The beer garden was always one of Munich's largest, but now it's also one of Munich's best. The quality has risen sharply and this is one beer garden that has received upgraded ratings in our 4th edition of The Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich. Leiberheim stands at attention with a 4-1/2-beer rating.
