Tighter than "salt on a pretzel" in the Augustiner Keller.

TiP: A good idea might be to continue on Tram 17 to visit three more beer gardens: Zur Schwaige, Hirschgarten, and Fasanerie. The 7th edition of The BDG2M has outlined a convenient route that includes them all without having to transfer to any other means of transportation.

Augustiner Keller is now closer than ever before. The short walk from the Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) has been replaced by a short tram ride now that Tram 17 (direction toward Nymphenburg) runs from the front side of the station directly to the beer garden (get off at Hopfenstraße). Augustiner Keller is a place where the Munich's hoy paloy from the entertainment and radio and television industries gather for their weekend stammtisch clubs. Look for the round, reserved tables and be advised they are reserved. That's OK, because there are plenty more seats where those came from, since this is one of the largest beer gardens in the city. And one of the most comodious. The atmosphere here on a warm summer evening is without equal. Huge, mature chestnut trees provide plenty of shade and support for strings of swaying colored lanterns that add to a festive air throughout the beer garden. The food is both self- and table service and the Augustiner beer is Munich's very best. That's why Augustiner Keller gets the top 5-beer rating.
